Classification of networks
By coverage:
Local area Network (LAN)-range: tens of meters to thousands of meters; capacity: several to thousands of computers
Metropolitan area Network (MAN)-contains multiple local area networks
Wide area Network (WAN)-the usual Internet
Divided by topology:
Bus type (how bandwidth is shared)
Ring (single, obsolete)
Star type
Tree type
By transmission media:
A, double line: including straight line, cross line, full reverse line (console line). The effective transmission distance of double glue line is only 100 meters.
B, coaxial cable: high production cost, rarely used at present, TV station cable is still in use.
C, optical fiber: long transmission distance, high speed, strong anti-interference, is an ideal choice.
D, wireless network: microwave, infrared transmission
The connection of the equipment follows the principle of "similar crossover, heterogeneous through".
The scope of use of straight-through lines: PC--- switches (switch), switches (switch)-routers (router)
Range of use of cross lines: PC---PC Switch---Swit h Route---Route
Reverse line: the line that configures a router or switch, usually only 2 meters long.
