Oracle launches the world's first autonomous operating system
Oracle has introduced a fully autonomous operating system, Oracle Autonomous Linux,Autonomous Linux, which is based on Oracle Linux and provides support for Oracle Cloud and Oracle engineering systems. The operating system is free for Oracle cloud infrastructure customers.
The company said in a statement:
"this will be the first and only autonomous operating environment, eliminating complexity and human error, saving costs for customers, while providing security and availability."
In addition to Oracle Autonomous Linux, Oracle introduces Oracle OS Management Service, a highly available Oracle cloud infrastructure component for monitoring and controlling systems, whether they are running Autonomous Linux, Linux, or Windows, a service that enables users to automate common administration tasks for Linux systems. Prior to this, Oracle has introduced an autonomous database, which can automatically deal with database infrastructure issues, such as hardware configuration, security and software installation, through machine learning to detect data center patterns and anomalies, handle some elements of database management, or predict hardware stack failures. Where the database can be instantiated through API calls, and Oracle handles all manual tasks that may be handled by DBA. According to Wim Coekaerts, Senior Vice President of Oracle operating system and Virtualization Engineering, Autonomous Linux is a service that is very similar in concept to autonomous database services. He said that Autonomous Linux can automate operating system management tasks without downtime, while providing an automatically optimized environment for specific applications. " Within two or three hours after a new patch is released, the fix is automatically applied to the Autonomous Linux environment in which you are running. It has no downtime to patch the Linux kernel, gLibC and OpenSSL, and all of these core libraries without shutting down the application. " To increase the security of autonomous systems, Oracle announced a series of new security services, including Oracle Data Safe, to monitor data, user, and configuration security issues. In addition to monitoring database activity, customers can also use it to identify sensitive data and mask the database to minimize or eliminate security risks. Oracle Data Safe is included in all Oracle database cloud services. In addition, Oracle has released Oracle Cloud Free Tier, which gives free access to Oracle's autonomous database and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure) to developers, students, or anyone else who wants to try out Oracle cloud services for unlimited time.
