Large inventory of interface types of optical modules

Today, let's talk about the interface types of optical modules.

An optical module is an optical device that can transmit and receive analog signals. After passing through the transmitting end of the optical module, the electrical signal is converted into an optical signal, and then through the receiving end, the optical signal is converted into an electrical signal to achieve photoelectric conversion.

In order for them to exchange information, two optical modules need to be connected, so a matching interface is needed.

As shown in the following figure, one 40G QSFP optical module is connected to four 10G SFP optical modules and requires a MPO-4DLC fiber jumper connection.

Interface Typ

This paper mainly introduces the optical module MPO interface, dual-core LC interface, single-core LC interface, and RJ-45 interface.

MPO interface optical module

The MPO interface optical module includes QSFP28 optical module, CFP2 optical module and QSFP+ optical module, which are connected by MPO/M connector, as shown in the following figure:

Dual-core LC interface optical module

The dual-core LC interface optical module includes QSFP28 optical module, CFP optical module, CFP2optical module, QSFP+ optical module, SFP28 optical module, SFP+ optical module and SFP optical module, which are connected by dual-core LC connectors, as shown in the following figure:

Single-core LC interface optical module

Single-core LC interface optical module is BIDI optical module, one of the worth is that BIDI optical module must be used in pairs. Connect using a single-core LC connector, as shown in the following figure:

RJ-45 interface optical module

The RJ-45 interface optical module is an electric port optical module, which is connected by twisted pair. Compared with the optical fiber transmission mode, the transmission distance of twisted pair is smaller, so it is only suitable for small-scale networking environment.
