Jpg and jpeg are in the same format

Jpg generally refers to JPEG format, JPEG (full name is Joint Photographic Experts Group) is a common image format, it is developed by the Joint Photography expert Group and named "ISO 10918-1", JPEG is just a common name.

The extension of JPEG file is its compression technology is very advanced, it uses to remove redundant images and color data, to achieve a very high compression ratio while showing very rich and vivid images, in other words, you can use the least disk space to get better image quality.

Format type

As an upgraded version of JPEG, JPEG2000 has a compression ratio of about 30% higher than JPEG, and supports both lossy and lossless compression. An extremely important feature of JPEG2000 format is that it can achieve progressive transmission, that is, first transmit the outline of the image, and then gradually transfer data, constantly improve the image quality, so that the image from hazy to clear display.

In addition, JPEG2000 also supports the so-called "region of interest" feature, which can arbitrarily specify the compression quality of the region of interest on the image, and you can choose the specified part to decompress first.

JPEG2000 has obvious advantages over JPEG and is backward compatible, so it can replace the traditional JPEG format. JPEG2000 can be used not only in the traditional JPEG market, such as scanners and digital cameras, but also in emerging fields, such as network transmission, wireless communication and so on.
