SEEDING_MODE = { AUTOMATIC | MANUAL }
Specifies how secondary copies are initially seeded. Specifies how the secondary replica is initially seeded.
AUTOMATIC
Enable direct seeding. Enables direct seeding. This method seeds secondary copies through the network. This method seeds the secondary replica over the network. This method does not require backing up and restoring copies of the primary database on the replica. This method does not require you to backup and restore a copy of the primary database on the replica.
Note
For direct seeding, you must allow databases to be created on each secondary replica by calling the alter availability group with the grant create any database option. For direct seeding, you must allow database creation on each secondary replica by calling ALTER AVAILABILITY GROUP with the GRANT CREATE ANY DATABASE option.
Manual Manual
Specify manual seeding (default). Specifies manual seeding (default). This method requires you to create a database backup on the primary replica and manually restore that backup on the secondary replica. This method requires you to create a backup of the database on the primary replica and manually restore that backup on the secondary replica.
