New In-Memory features Spatial and Text support for Oracle 20c

Aiming at the built-in multi-mode characteristics of Oracle database, geographic information-Spatial and full-text search-Text components, further support is obtained through the memory characteristics of In-Memory in Oracle Database 20c.

For spatial data, Oracle adds spatial summary information to spatial columns in memory (only in memory, without external storage). By means of fast filtering of SIMD vectors and replacement of R-Tree index, spatial data query and retrieval can be accelerated and the query speed can be increased by 10 times.

For full-text retrieval (Text), an inverted index is added to each text column in memory, and the performance of full-text retrieval is accelerated by mapping words to documents containing words and replacing the original disk index with memory. Through the hybrid query combining relational data and text, the performance of full-text retrieval can be improved by more than 3 times.

Taken together, Oracle continues to expand memory computing through the continuous enhancement of In-Memory features, and the new function of In-Memory is playing a more important role.
