An overview of computer network
Types of Computer Networks
local area network, metropolitan area network, wide area network.
local Area Network
A collection of computers, printers, modms, or other devices, usually within a few kilometers, that can be interconnected by some medium.
MAN Metropolitan Area Network
MAN coverage is medium, between local area network and wide area network, usually within a city network connection (distance is about 10KM)
WAN (Wide Area Network)
Distributed over a wide distance, it provides access over a larger geographical area through various types of serial connections
Key indicators for measuring computer networks
Bandwidth (bandwidth)
Describes the amount of data that can be transferred from one node to another within a certain time frame.
It is usually expressed in bps.
delay (delay)
Describe the time it takes for data to travel from one node to another on the network.
