How to use LNMP environment to install SMF forum program
SMF is a popular forum solution, which provides a variety of functions. With modular design and flexibility, users can create their own plug-ins and modify SMF plug-ins in any way they want.
Before you begin, be sure to follow the steps listed in the getting started guide. You also need a LAMP stack.
Tip: this guide is written for non-root users. Commands that need to elevate privileges are prefixed with sudo. If you are not familiar with the sudo command, you can check our user and group wizards.
Prerequisites:
You need to create a MySQL user and database for SMF.
Log in to the MySQL server as root:

Mysql-u root-p
Create a user and database, the forum is the database name, forumadmin as the user name, and change the password as shown in the following example:

Create databate forums
Grant all on forums.* to 'forumadmin' identified by' password'
Quit
Install SMF
The following instructions will download the latest stable version, version 2.0.9.
Tip: if you are using a non-Apache web server, or if you have a backup system user for your web server, make sure that www-data is replaced with the appropriate system user in the following command.
1. Navigate to the document root (usually similar to / var/www.vultrla.com/public_html) and create a directory forum:

Sudo chown-R www-data:www-data / var/www
Sudo-u www-data mkdir forums
Cd forums/
Tip: if you want to install SMF on the home page of your website, please install it in the document root. If you want the URL to be another / forum, you can modify the above instructions as needed.
2. Download and extract the software package:

Sudo-u www-data wget http://download. / index.php/latest/install-O smf_latest_install.tar.gz
Sudo-u www-data tar-zxvf smf_latest_install.tar.gz
3. Follow the instructions on the web interface to complete the installation; then, in your terminal, delete the installation script:

Sudo rm install.php
Your SMF installation is now complete! In order to maintain the integrity of your system, please update your forum as needed.
