Mir2disease is a database of miRNA-related diseases developed by Harbin Institute of Technology.

The database contains 349 miRNA, 163 diseases and 3273 miRNA and disease association information.

For the disorder of miRNA in disease tissue, the following three models are given.

MiRNA is located at the pathogenic genomic site, such as the LOH region of loss of heterozygosity. Some studies have found that miR-15 and miR-16 are located in the 13q14 region of chromosome 13, which is deleted in chronic lymphoid B-cell leukemia, resulting in the loss or down-regulation of the expression of these two miRNA.

The abnormality of miRNA is caused by epigenetics, including DNA methylation and histone modification. Some studies have found that the promoter region of let-7a-3 gene is highly methylated in normal tissues and low methylation in lung cancer tissues. Demethylation of the promoter region leads to the reactivation of carcinogenic let-7a-3 in lung cancer cells and up-regulation of expression.

The imbalance of miRNA in disease tissue is related to the loss of related enzymes. Some studies have found that miR-24 and miR-93 target to regulate viral proteins. In Dicer enzyme deficient cells, VSV replication is increased due to the loss of miR-24 and miR-93 in host cells.

For each record of miRNA associated with disease, miRNA ID, disease name, detection method, miRNA target gene information and corresponding literature are given, which is very similar to the overall structure of the HMDD database.
