High definition Multimedia Interface (High Definition Multimedia Interface,HDMI) is a fully digital video and sound transmission interface that can send uncompressed audio and video signals.
HDMI can be used in set-top boxes, DVD players, personal computers, televisions, game consoles, integrated expanders, digital audio, televisions and other devices. HDMI can send audio and video signals at the same time, because audio and video signals use the same wire, which greatly simplifies the difficulty of system circuit installation.
HDMI is designed to replace older analog audio and video transmission interfaces such as SCART or RCA. It supports a variety of TV and computer video formats, including SDTV and HDTV video pictures, plus multi-channel digital audio.
Both HDMI and UDI without audio transmission function inherit TMDS, the core technology of DVI, which is still an extension of DVI in essence.
The sponsors of HDMI include major consumer electronics manufacturers, such as Hitachi, Panasonic, Quasar, Philips, Sony, Thomson RCA, Toshiba, Silicon Image. Digital content Protection Company (Digital Content Protection, LLC) provides anti-copy protection technology related to HDMI interface. In addition, HDMI is supported by major film production companies such as 20th Century Fox, Warner Brothers, Disney, major consumer electronics manufacturers, including Samsung Electronics, and a number of cable TV system operators.
