A life-cycle way of thinking

Everything in the universe has a process from birth to death, from stars in the Milky way to microbes on Earth, regardless of the length of their lives.

All kinds of things in the organization also have to go through the development process from scratch, from being to nothing. For an enterprise, its customers go through four stages: investigation period, formation period, stability period and regression period; the products of enterprises also go through four stages: investment period, growth period, maturity period and decline period; the equipment and resources of the enterprise will go through several stages such as procurement, use, wear and discarding, and the employees of the enterprise will go through several stages such as recruitment, entry, training, promotion and termination of contract. The enterprise's information system will go through several stages, such as demand analysis, architecture design, development and testing, online operation, operation and maintenance, offline exit and so on. It can be seen that the management objects of enterprises have to go through the whole process from introduction to withdrawal, which we call the life cycle.

By analyzing according to the thinking mode of the life cycle, we can avoid looking at the problem one-sidedly, statically and in isolation. On the other hand, if you follow the whole life cycle way of thinking, you can see the problem in a comprehensive, moving and connected way.

For big data, if we analyze the whole life cycle of data generation, storage, cleaning, conversion, enrichment, use, backup and destruction, we can see the process of data flow more completely and realize the management of data based on the value of data.
