New Edge browser launched Microsoft plans to promote updates through Windows Update

On January 16th, the new Microsoft Edge browser based on Chromium kernel was officially launched on Microsoft's official website. The new Edge supports seven platforms, including Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, macOS, iOS and Android, and has more than 90 language versions. Microsoft obviously hopes to promote this painstaking work to most users around the world.

On January 17th, foreign media exposed the promotion plan of Edge browser, which is divided into two stages.

The first is the first stage, when Edge browsers are launched on Microsoft's official website. Microsoft will not take the initiative to use Windows 10 to promote it. Anyone who wants to use the new version of Edge needs to download it manually and overwrite the installation (the old version of Edge will be hidden after installation).

Then there is the second phase, where Microsoft plans to push a new version of the Edge browser through Windows Update in the next few months. First, Microsoft will push for Insider users, and if there is no problem, Microsoft will expand the push range to ordinary Windows 10 users.

Either way, Edge browsers are updated every six weeks, independent of Windows 10, to further improve or add new features.

In addition, enterprises do not need to worry about automatically updating new Edge browsers through Windows Update. Microsoft says administrators have complete control over whether to deploy new browsers, and Microsoft will exclude enterprise devices from automatic updates. Microsoft also provides supporting documentation to provide them with the necessary information if they are ready to upgrade.
