The market share of Chrome browser on the desktop has exceeded 70%, and users are complaining about the crappy AI features of Firefox.

The data research agency Statcounter released the desktop browser market survey report for August 2025 today, showing that the market share of Google Chrome browser continues to expand and has now reached 70.25%, taking the lead, with a 0.5% increase compared to last month. Last month's runner-up was Microsoft Edge, but the gap between it and Google Chrome is huge, with a market share of 11.8%, an increase of 0.01% compared to July; Apple's Safari came third with a share of 6.34%, a decrease of 0.16% compared to July. The fourth and fifth places are Firefox and Opera respectively. The former had a market share of 4.94% last month, a decrease of 0.36% compared to July; the latter was 2.06%, a decrease of 0.13% compared to July. The foreign media Neowin commented that although the overall market pattern in August remained unchanged, the browser market as a whole is being rapidly penetrated by AI functions. Developers are adding AI-related functions to their browsers to attract new users and retain old ones. Even the rather "maverick" Firefox is no exception and has stuffed AI tab features into its browser. However, not all users can readily accept these functions. Some users complained that Firefox's AI-related functions significantly increase CPU usage and consume battery power quickly. Some even called it a "crappy function" and asked Mozilla to stop "following the trend" and adding useless AI functions.
