Linux Lite 4.2 official release: now based on Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS

The second minor maintenance update of the ­Linux Lite 4.x release branch has been officially launched. Jerry Bezencon today announced the official launch of Linux Lite 4.2. Based on the Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS (Bionic Beaver) released by Canonical, Linux Lite 4.2 uses the Linux 4.15.0-38.41 kernel. Users can also install the Linux 3.13 to 4.19 kernels according to their own needs.

­Linux Lite 4.2 will come with Firefox 63.0 "Quantum" web browser, Mozilla Thunderbird 60.2.1 email and news client, LibreOffice 6.0.6.2 office suite, VLC 3.0.3 multimedia player, GIMP 2.10.6 image editor and upgraded Lite Welcome tool, Redshift tool to adjust color temperature.

­Jerry Bezencon wrote in a statement today: "Redshift has now been added to Lite Software. Redshift can adjust the color temperature according to the position of the sun, setting different color temperatures at night and during the day. The excessive color temperature is very natural from dusk to early morning, allowing your eyes to adapt slowly."

Another exciting new feature in ­Linux Lite 4.2 is the ability to install the operating system directly from the boot menu. The return of the ability to install Linux Lite on the Live boot menu means that users no longer need to start a live session to install the system, speeding up the installation process.
