A recent survey conducted by Intel data center management solution DCM and Dell shows that almost half of IT managers are not fully aware of what is happening in their data centers. Data center infrastructure management (DCIM) solutions are key to understanding how data centers operate efficiently, but only 53% of IT managers are using this approach. DCIM solutions can provide important information about heat and energy use within the data center, and can be used to provide feasible solutions to further save data center operating costs.

The infographic below summarizes the joint survey and describes DCIM-related best practices, including the use of energy management and monitoring tools, as well as some common goals for IT managers to deploy DCIM tools, such as reducing operating costs and paying more attention to green protection. The DCIM solution provides the easiest way to assess the changes that are taking place within the data center. Given that 44% and 37% of IT managers are plagued by energy consumption and heat dissipation, respectively, it is clear that we need to further tap and take advantage of the advantages of DCIM.
