To do this, you must place the certificate file in the directory indicated by the-- cert-dir command line argument or the CertificatesDir configuration item in the configuration file. The default value is / etc/kubernetes/pki.

If a given certificate and private key pair exists before running kubeadm init, kubeadm will not overwrite them. For example, this means that you can copy the existing CA to / etc/kubernetes/pki/ca.crt and / etc/kubernetes/pki/ca.key, and kubeadm will use this CA to sign the rest of the certificates.

External CA mode

It is also possible to provide only the ca.crt file but not the ca.key file (this is only available for the CA root certificate, not for other certificates). If all other certificates and kubeconfig files are ready, kubeadm detects that the above conditions are met and the "external CA" mode is activated. Kubeadm will continue without the CA key file.
