CPU utilization is usually referred to as the percentage of time other than idle time to total CPU time.

There are many important metrics for CPU utilization, which are as follows:

User (usually abbreviated to us) stands for user-mode CPU time. Note that it includes the following nice time, but includes guest time.

Nice (usually abbreviated to ni) represents the low priority user mode CPU time, that is, the nice value of the process is adjusted to the CPU time between 1 and 19.

System (usually abbreviated to sys), which stands for kernel state CPU time

Idle (usually abbreviated to id), which represents idle time. Note that it does not include the Imax O wait time (iowait)

Iowait (usually abbreviated to wa), which represents the CPU time waiting for Imax O

Irq (usually abbreviated to hi), which represents the CPU time for handling hard interrupts

Softirq (usually abbreviated to si), which represents the CPU time for processing soft interrupts

Steal (usually abbreviated to st), which represents the CPU time occupied by other virtual machines when the system is running in a virtual machine

Guest (usually abbreviated to guest), which represents the time it takes to run other operating systems through virtualization, that is, the CPU time to run the virtual machine
