The company is committed to providing minimal mirror sizes and carefully selected software packages to facilitate automation on public clouds and Docker Hub, always providing the highest levels of security, excellent performance, stability and reliability.
if you want to use a minimally installed Ubuntu base image for automated cloud operation on a public cloud, it is recommended to use the newly introduced Minimal Ubuntu system, which is more than 50% smaller than the standard Ubuntu Server image and 40% faster to boot.
More importantly, the Minimal Ubuntu system is still compatible with the standard Ubuntu software package, meaning that users can install applications from the official Ubuntu software library and perform any standard Ubuntu operation.
the latest two versions of the Minimal Ubuntu system are available for download and support Amazon EC2, Google Compute Engine (GCE), on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud, as well as Canonical's LXD pure-container hypervisor and KVM-based OpenStack solutions.
this version is based on long-supported Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver), Minimal Ubuntu 16.04 LTS will be supported until April 2021, and Minimal Ubuntu 18.04 LTS base images will be supported until April 2023.
