The sosreport command is used to collect system configuration and architecture information and output diagnostic documents.

To run sosreport, you need to install the sos package. The sos package is part of the default installation package for most linux. If it is not installed for some reason, run the following yum command to install the sos package:

# yum install sos-y

Generate a report

Open the terminal and enter the sosreport command:

# sosreport

This order is normally completed in a few minutes. Depending on the local configuration, in some cases, some options may take longer to complete. Once done, sosreport will generate a zip file in the / tmp directory. Different versions use different compression schemes (gz,bz2, or xz). This document should be provided to Red Hat's support representatives (usually as an attachment in open cases).

Note: sosreport requires root permission to run.
