FreeBSD virtual machine VMware Tools installation tutorial

For FreeBSD virtual machines, you can manually install or upgrade VMware Tools using command line tools

prerequisite

Turn on the virtual machine.

Confirm that the client operating system is running.

Because the VMware Tools installer is written in Perl, verify that Perl is installed in the client operating system.

Process

On the host, select Virtual Machine > install VMware Tools from the Workstation Pro menu bar.

If an earlier version of VMware Tools is installed, the menu item is to update VMware Tools.

In the virtual machine, log in to the client operating system as root and open the terminal window.

If the distribution does not automatically mount CD-ROM, mount the VMware Tools virtual CD-ROM image.

For example, type mount / cdrom.

Go to the working directory, for example, / tmp.

Cd / tmp

Extract the VMware Tools .tar.gz file.

Tar zxpf / cdrom/vmware-freebsd-tools.tar.gz

If the distribution does not use automount, unmount the VMware Tools virtual CD-ROM image.

Umount / cdrom

Run the installer and configure VMware Tools.

Cd vmware-tools-distrib. / vmware-install.pl usually lines the vmware-config-tools.pl configuration file after the installer file finishes running.

If it suits your configuration, follow the prompts to accept the default values.

Follow the instructions at the end of the script.

Depending on the features used, these instructions may include restarting the X session, restarting the network connection, logging back in, and starting the VMware user process. Alternatively, you can reboot the client operating system to accomplish all of these tasks.
