Here's how to migrate Azure web app. In general, there is no need to migrate Azure web app after deployment, but in some special cases, companies also have the need to migrate web app to other Azure region. The migration of PaaS services is different from traditional VM.

For the cross-region migration of traditional Azure VM, we can have Azcopy or powershell commands for different disk types (unmanaged or managed). If it is the migration of Azure web app, Microsoft has given a very good solution. Compared with the migration of VM, it will be much easier. Here's how to migrate.

It is hereby noted that this method is suitable for migrating azure web app from one region of Azure to azure web app of another region, or between azure web app within the same region.

First find the azure web app that needs to be migrated, and click backup

Click configure Storage account

Then select a storage account to store the backed-up data and configuration

Choose a container, which is similar to the concept of a folder in a traditional file system. Data can be stored in different containers according to different requirements.

Click Save

Click the backup below

After clicking, you can see that the backup is in progress, and the speed of the backup will vary depending on the amount of data. It took about 15 minutes to try a 300m backup before.

Backup files can also be downloaded separately.

After the backup is completed, find the target azure web app, click backup again, and click restore below

Select restore from Stora

Then select the previously created backup file, here you can select the current deployment slot, or you can choose to restore to another deployment slot at the restore target, and then click OK

After waiting for a period of time, the data can be restored to the new azure web app. After completion, you need to check the configuration in the application. Some configurations still need to be manually reset, for example, only SSL is allowed.
