Currently, L2 Population supports VXLAN with Linux bridge and VXLAN/GRE with OVS.

You can enable L2 Population with the following configuration.

Set l2population mechanism driver at / etc/neutron/plugins/ml2/ml2_conf.ini.

Mechanism_drivers = linuxbridge,l2population

Also configure enable L2 Population in [VXLAN].

After the L2 Population takes effect, the vxlan-100 created will have an additional Proxy ARP function.

Looking at the forwarding database on the control node, you can see that VTEP saves the port information of cirros-vm2.

The MAC of cirros-vm2 is fa:16:3e:1d:23:a3. VTEP IP is 166.66.16.11.

When it is necessary to communicate with cirros-vm2, the control node VTEP 166.66.16.10 will send the encapsulated VXLAN packets directly to the VTEP 166.66.16.11 of the computing node.

Let's take another look at the forwarding database on the compute node:

The port information for cirros-vm1 and dhcp is saved in fdb. When you need to communicate with them, the compute node VTEP knows that the packet should be sent directly to the VTEP of the control node.
