1 host-to-host migration

When administrators need to carry out system maintenance or hardware upgrades, they will need to temporarily migrate virtual machines to other host machines; when the load of the virtualized environment is uneven or when the virtual machines are not suitable to continue to work on the original host machine due to sudden failures, the virtual machine needs to be migrated to a low-load, healthy host.

1.1 Migration over the network (LAN Migration)

Network migration is the easiest way to migrate. It is realized by copying virtual machine related files from the original host to the target host through the network, or between the host and the library server (Library). For Hyper-V or Virtual Server hosts, transfer VHD files through BITS

This principle of migration through network copy determines that the migration time basically depends on the size of the virtual machine file and the state of the network, and the migration time for Hyper-V 2016 host usually ranges from a few minutes to several hours. If you migrate a running virtual machine, the virtual machine will be placed in the saved state and all the services it provides will be temporarily inaccessible.

1.2 Live Migration (Live Migration)

Real-time migration can migrate the running virtual machine to the target host without interruption.

Real-time migration is aimed at the Hyper-V host, and requires that the original host and the target host have the same CPU architecture, can access the same SAN storage disk, and are in the same failover cluster (Failover Cluster).

1.3 Rapid Migration (Quick Migration)
