Dig is a tool for DNS query information under Linux, the full name is Domain Information Groper, similar to nslookup, but more powerful than nslookup. There is only nslookup under Windows. If you also want to use the dig command, you have to install it yourself.

As part of bind, the official website of dig is as follows:

Let's talk about the steps and how to install it.

Select a mirror site and click to enter, for example:

Ftp://ftp.nominum.com/pub/isc/bind9/

Select the latest version 9.9.7, as shown below:

If it is 64 bits, the download address is as follows:

Ftp://ftp.nominum.com/pub/isc/bind9/9.9.7/BIND9.9.7.x64.zip

If it is 32 bits, the download address is as follows:

Ftp://ftp.nominum.com/pub/isc/bind9/9.9.7/BIND9.9.7.x86.zip

Here, take the installation under Windows 7 64-bit as an example, extract BIND9.9.7.x64.zip, and double-click vcredist_x64.exe (if it is 32-bit, the file name is vcredist_x86.exe) to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistribution.

Then copy all the dll files to the C:\ Windows\ System32\ directory. As shown in the following figure:

Then copy dig.exe to the C:\ Windows\ System32\ directory as well.

At this point, the installation is complete.

Open cmd and verify it. As shown in the following figure:

If you want to use Google Public DNS for dig queries, you need to add a file named resolv.conf in the C:\ Windows\ System32\ drivers\ etc\ directory.

The contents are as follows:

Nameserver 8.8.8.8

Nameserver 8.8.4.4
