Assistants will be trained to recognize a range of British accents and the BBC is studying voice assistants to better understand the British way of speaking.

According to the BBC News, the assistant is tentatively named "BEEB" and a variety of local accents with BBC staff accents are trained to help in their training. It has always been a problem for voice assistants to understand voices from all over the UK, which is better suited to American accents.

The broadcaster's internal team is developing artificial intelligence assistants, which will be launched next year to help UK users. Although BBC has no plans to launch its own device to compete with Amazon Echo or Google Home, Beeb will be built into BBC's website, iPlayer app and smart TV and made available to manufacturers who want to use the software on their devices.

The voice assistant will be activated by the wake-up word "Beeb", but the features found in other voice assistants will not be copied because a much smaller team is developing the technology. BBC staff will be asked to record a few minutes of audio to help training assistants understand different accents and dialects.

"about 1/5 of adults have smart speakers at home-millions have voice control devices in their pockets-so people increasingly need to use their voices to access programs and services. but people are worried about how these devices use their data," a BBC spokesman said.

"We want to ensure that everyone benefits from this new technology and bring exciting new content, programs and services to people in a trustworthy and easy-to-use way. This marks another step in ensuring that the value of public services is protected in future voices," they added.
