Apple clarifies that the new 12.9in iPad Pro is "functionally compatible" with the old magic keyboard
Apple has just released the Magic Keyboard support document, which provides a clearer picture of the compatibility between Apple's new iPad Pro with a 12.9-inch M1 driver and the old Magic Keyboard. It was previously reported that the new M1 12.9-inch iPad Pro is not compatible with the old magic keyboard because the new iPad is slightly thicker.
Apple now clarifies that the old Magic Keyboard can be used with the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro, but it won't expect a precise fit when it closes because of its increased thickness.
Apple's exact words here: the first magic keyboard (A1998) is functionally compatible with the new 12.9in iPad Pro (fifth generation) with a Liquid Retina XDR display. Due to the slightly thicker size of the new iPad Pro, it may not be possible to accurately install the magic keyboard when closed, especially when affixed with a screen protector. Of course, in addition to increasing the thickness, it is also feasible for both to have the same size and keep the position of the connector unchanged.
In other words, given the price of the Magic Keyboard and the excellence of the input, the problem of getting started is unfortunate. I can only hope that the new mini LED display is worth adding thickness.
Once we come into contact with the brand new 12.9-inch iPad Pro, we will certainly check it to see if it fits. 0.5mm doesn't sound like much, but as we all know, when it comes to fit, every point is very important.
