Compared with Galaxy Z Fold 3, this year's collapsible canopy looks almost an incremental upgrade rather than a revolutionary upgrade, at least without taking into account the "optional" S Pen. However, despite the seemingly fragile design and display of the Galaxy Z Fold 3, these small improvements add up to make it one of the most durable phones on the market. The biggest upgrade is IPX8, which is almost impossible for such devices. Fortunately, JerryRigEverything and iFixit have unlocked Samsung's hydrophobic secret by turning on the $1800 phone.

On traditional smartphones, waterproofing can be easily achieved through a combination of adhesives, rubber washers and waterproof nets, covering all possible entry points. Foldable devices with hinges naturally complicate the situation, so Samsung is forced to adopt new designs and materials to prevent water from getting inside in the first place. Just as hinge brushes can keep out most of the dust, Galaxy Z Fold 3's waterproofing begins with hinges.

Samsung talked about the special washers it uses around the cable connectors that connect the two monitors and has since used special silicone materials to prevent water from entering the phone. Xit points out that water may still get under the phone and display panel, but it will be further blocked by a strong adhesive that protects the cable that connects the screen to the rest of the phone.

Unfortunately, the water on these obstacles can damage Galaxy Z folding 3. JerryRigEverything proved that the phone's circuit board does not have any hydrophobic coating to protect electronic devices from water. Third, Samsung is so vague in this respect that it can't really call it potentially misleading marketing.

All in all, Galaxy Z Fold 3 turns out to be a very small device, which means it's hard to turn on and maintain. This in turn translates into expensive maintenance costs, which is why Samsung promotes its Care warranty to all buyers of foldable phones. Given its durability, car owners should at least not have to worry, but some scratches and scratches have been reported. Ironically, it is more common on the outer screen and frame than the more fragile home screen.
