One of my students has the following error in SQL Server2005 in the Windowsserver2003 virtual machine:

The SQL Server service could not be started. For more information, see the topics "how to view SQL Server 2005 installation log files" and "starting SQL Server manually" for SQL Server Books online

The first error is an unhandled win32 exception in sqlserver.exe [1412].

The second error is an unhandled win32 exception in sqlserver.exe [3436].

The third error is an unhandled win32 exception in sqlserver.exe [3080].

Solution:

Enter msconfig in the virtual machine to open the system configuration tool

Refer to the following figure to set the number of CPU threads

Restart the system

Install SQL2005 again and you will succeed.
