Radiator manufacturer Noktua announced today that Intel's upcoming Comet Lake-SCPU LGA 1200CPU socket will be compatible with all existing LGA115x radiators, confirming the speculation in last year's report.

For those who need to catch up, LGA 1200 is an updated version of the Intel LGA115x socket, which the chipmaker launched on Skylake in 2015. As the name implies, it has 49 more pins than the LGA115X socket, which increases power output.

Noktua wrote on this week's FAQ page: "the heat sink installed on Intel's new LGA 1200 (codenamed Comet Lake S) is the same as all LGA115x slots (LGA 1150, LGA 1151, LGA 1155, and LGA 1156). Therefore, all LGA115x-enabled CPU radiators in noctuia also support LGA 1200 without any installation or update.

This is good news for builders who want to upgrade CPU rather than CPU radiators.

Hardware detective @ momo _ us also supported Noctua's message when he posted on Weibo, sending a schematic diagram of the LGA 1200 socket. The figure shows a size similar to that of the LGA 115x, which leads us to conclude that the radiator mechanism may not change. Even though you may still need to purchase Intel 400 series motherboards for use with Comet Lake-S, we are very happy to hear the official news.

Noktua added that although many older radiator models do not support LGA 115x or LGA 1200 sockets, customers can order the NM-i115X upgrade kit free of charge to make it compatible.
