Microsoft antivirus software windows (Microsoft introduced its antivirus software to iOS and Android)
Microsoft plans to introduce its Defender antivirus software to Android and iOS later this year. The software giant is developing applications for two mobile operating systems designed to provide antivirus protection and a "complete command line experience". Microsoft didn't say what the apps would do, but the company plans to preview them at next week's RSA conference.
The mobile apps came less than a year after Microsoft began releasing a public preview of its Defender antivirus software on MacOS. As a result, Microsoft changed the name of Windows Defender Advanced threat Protection (ATP) to Microsoft Defender Advanced threat Protection (ATP). Mac clients provide complete virus and threat protection and are able to perform fast or complete scans.
Microsoft's mobile antivirus software must be completely different from the desktop version.
Microsoft's mobile Defender client may be completely different from the desktop version, especially because Apple's iOS platform does not allow applications to scan for malware through iPhone or iPad. However, Android antivirus applications are varied. Microsoft will join this growing market to prevent malware from Android apps from being loaded on devices.
One of Defender's bigger goals on iOS and Android is to prevent phishing, which prevents employees from accidentally revealing their usernames, passwords, or other account information. However, it is not clear how Microsoft will achieve this goal on iOS.
Because both mobile applications are part of Microsoft's enterprise security platform, consumers are unlikely to use them. In addition to mobile news, Microsoft today announced Microsoft Defender ATP for Linux. As part of a broad effort to protect devices other than Windows and macOS, companies can preview.
