Open-ear Shokz OpenRun offers $20 at Amazon
Only the best price on gadgets approved by Verge can get the approval seal of Verge Deals, so if you are looking for the next gadget or gift deal from major retailers such as Amazon, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target, this is where it is.
If you do a lot of outdoor activities, whether it's cycling, walking or any other activity, it may be a good idea to buy headphones that don't completely prevent you from hearing sound for safety reasons. One of the best values so far is the OpenRun from Shokz (formerly known as AfterShokz), an unconventional-looking set of headphones. Amazon typically costs $129.95, while black, blue, gray or red colors cost $109.95.
They connect and operate like ordinary wireless headphones. But instead of covering your ears, OpenRun keeps them open, transmitting sound through the bones near the ear-and it works surprisingly well. In case you're wondering, these are the successors of AfterShokz Aeropex, the models I've reviewed, and the ones that Dieter Bohn, a former Verge cyclist, likes very much. In fact, according to the Shokz website, OpenRun is a "fast charging Aeropex". Ring's latest home security system, Ring Alarm Pro, has the lowest price on Amazon. The basic eight-piece configuration, which includes an Alarm Pro base station (which doubles as an eero Wi-Fi 6 router), a keyboard, a motion detector, an alarm range expander and four door and window contact sensors, is $60. It's usually $299.99, but now it's down to $239.99.
Every configuration of Ring Alarm Pro is greatly discounted. The boost model, which usually costs $379.99, includes a base station, two keyboards, two motion detectors, an alarm range expander and eight contact sensors, and sells for $299.99.
My colleague Jennifer Pattison Tuohy called Ring Alarm Pro "everything you need to start a smart home." It can be added with other Ring Alarm accessories as well as other eero 6 routers and Amazon products.
