How to change the Public Network profile in Windows 10
This article shows you how to change the public network configuration file in Windows 10, which is concise and easy to understand. I hope you can gain something through the detailed introduction of this article.
Public and private network profiles
Dedicated connections are suitable for home or closed office networks, in other words, you know and trust all other devices that PC may connect to. Although you can modify the way Windows handles public and private network locations, by default, private network connections allow the use of device discovery, printer sharing, and the ability to view PC in a web browser.
By contrast, public network locations are designed to cover any situation where you don't know and trust all other devices, such as coffee shops, airports, or even office networks that do not use good security measures and allow visitors to connect to the same network as employees. In this case, Windows can protect you from inadvertently connecting to other devices that may be malicious by turning off the default sharing feature and webcasting. This does not mean that you cannot connect to other devices or share files on the public network, it just means that Windows does not automatically do this for you, requiring you to manually connect and authenticate other devices.
Network profile that identifies PC
If you don't know whether your network connection is currently marked public or private by Windows, you can find it by going to Settings > Network and Internet.
There, make sure you have selected the status tab on the sidebar, and you will see your active network connection on the right.
In our example, our Ethernet connection is identified as a public network. However, because this PC is located in the office where we use a closed network, * change its label to a private network.

To change your network location type from public to private (and vice versa), keep the same network and Internet settings page above and find your network connection in the left sidebar. In our example, we are using a desktop PC with wired Ethernet connections, so we will choose Ethernet. For laptops or desktops with wireless network cards, look for Wi-Fi.
Please note that Microsoft has made and will continue to make major changes to windows 10. This prompt and its screenshot refer to the version of the * operating system as of the release date (version 1803, version 17134), but the steps may be changed in a future version.
