If Epic is forced to pay App Store fees after the trial, and Tim Cook has repeatedly said that Apple will find ways to charge developers for iOS and iPadOS apps purchased outside App Store is not enough, then a new court document further clarifies this point by the company.

Apple filed a response brief to the US District Court for the Northern District of California on Tuesday supporting a motion to suspend the ban and force it to allow developers to add alternative payment links or buttons to the app.

In the briefing, Apple's lawyer rejected Epic Games's suggestion that the company would not receive a share of transactions that took place outside App Store.

"this is not true. Apple has not previously charged a commission for the purchase of digital content through buttons and links because such purchases are not allowed," the note said. "if the ban takes effect, Apple can charge a commission for purchases made through such a mechanism."

The problem at hand is the decision made by U.S. District Court Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers. Although she is largely supportive of Apple, she did issue a decision banning developers from adding alternative payment links or buttons to their apps.
