Apple has gone all out on its own chips this year, but the original M1 chip is still strong. If you want to try it out for yourself, the basic MacBook Air is available on Amazon, matching Black Friday's all-time low of $849.99.

If there is one problem, it is this: At the time of writing, the price is only applicable to rose gold or silver models. Deep space gray is a bit expensive.

In addition to the M1, you get a 13-inch Retina display, 8GB of unified memory and 256GB of SSD storage. This is the base model and cannot be upgraded later. Still, it's a good price.

The base model MacBook Air in rose gold or silver should be adequate for light workloads, with long battery life and amazing performance. This fanless design has proven to be a new recommendation for Apple users who don't need a professional-grade power supply. There is also a deep space gray configuration with 512GB of storage. We've seen it once before for $50 less, but it's still a very reliable price.

For those who prefer deep space gray, there is a slightly upgraded model or 512GB of storage for $1,099. That's a good discount of $1,249, and it's usually the best price you get. At one point it dropped to $1,049.99, but we haven't reached that price yet on this Black Friday.
