Compaq is famous for its selection of Apple, Dell and Hewlett-Packard laptops. It is ODM and the world's second-largest maker of OEM notebook computers (after Quanta computers), sometimes translating its skills into original designs. As a result, Compaq's experience design team has won more than 50 iF design awards since 2011.

This year, Compaq once again attracted the attention and imagination of iF judges with its innovative new laptop design, which is potentially attractive to both content consumers and creators. Compal PivoBook is the champion of the product design team in 2020. As its name implies, it has a rotating display screen.

The choice of display direction in laptops and the easy conversion between landscape and portrait views may attract some users. This is not a two-in-one or detachable hybrid, but a suitable laptop that should be stable and rigid in daily operation.

In the description of the product's iF reward page, we don't know much about the technical specifications of Compal PivoBook. However, I have pointed out what we know about this machine:

14-inch organic light emitting diode FHD rotating display.

The screen supports multi-touch.

Big touchpad.

This laptop weighs 1.5 kilos.

Apart from the technical specifications, the most important thing about this laptop is, of course, its adjustable screen orientation. According to the iF reward page, you can swipe the screen with one hand. "with the ingenuity of the hinges, the screen can be easily converted from normal horizontal productivity to vertical web browsing or video calls-all without first removing the display," the award page said. I hope the panel won't have a headache when it rotates to portrait mode.

PivoBook will not enter the market as Compal, but you may see it re-branded globally through chains, shopping malls and online stores. It is said to be aimed at consumer and industrial customers in Asia and North America. We don't have any indicative price or supply information at present.

FullVision notebook computer design.

These are not the only designs Compaq won this year. The FullVision laptop concept also won the iF award. This design allows users to swipe the built-in screen to the left to enter a "connected but stand-alone tablet", increasing the viewing area from 15.6in to 29in and changing the aspect ratio from 16: 9 to 323360 9 ".
