Apple launches new products to pay more attention to public transportation
Apple has expressed concern about providing public transportation directions on Apple Maps and purchased HopStop. Now, sales have doubled with the acquisition of board, a maker of fashion bus apps covering new york, Chicago and san francisco.
Jessica Lessin, a former reporter for The Wall Street Journal, reported that the deal happened recently and that the overall goal was to integrate technology and convenient directions for boarding ships into Apple Maps. No transaction prices were reported.
Apple Maps has long been a thorn in Apple's shiny side. One sticking point for people in big cities like New York, San Francisco, and Chicago that have public transportation infrastructure is that Apple Maps sends you to a third-party app for transit directions. Google Maps is the leader in this field, and its apps include excellent public transportation directions.
IOS powered apps are still real-time (e.g. NYC powered and DC powered). However, the Android app onboard appears to be no longer available for download.
Apple doesn't confirm acquisitions, but it gives us the same line every time it buys a small company: "apple buys small tech companies from time to time, and we don't usually discuss our goals or plans. "
