Based on customer requirements, users are required to be added in bulk to the existing in-place retention in Office 365. As you know, we can do this through the Exchange online graphical user GUI interface or through PowerShell.

To bulk add users to existing in-place retention in Office 365, you need to connect to Exchange online PowerShell

$UserCred= Get-Credential$Session = New-PSSession-ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange-ConnectionURI https://outlook.office365.com/powershell-liveid/-Credential$ UserCred-Authentication Basic-AllowRedirectionImport-PSSession $Session

After the Exchange Online PowerShell connection. The next step is to add the mailbox to our mailbox search

# 1 list all mailboxes in the existing mailbox search

$InPlaceHoldMBX = (Get-MailboxSearch "InPlaceHold") .SourceMailboxes

# 2 add other mailboxes to the existing list. You can use UPN, email, or any other user identifier to uniquely identify the user.

$InPlaceHoldMBX + = "user Identifier"

# 3 add a user to an existing InPlace list

Set-MailboxSearch "InPlaceHold"-SourceMailboxes $InPlaceHoldMBX-InPlaceHoldEnabled $true

After adding users to in-place retention, you can export the list of users added to in-place retention

PS cmdlet "(Get-MailboxSearch" InPlaceHold ") .SourceMailboxes"

Close the PowerShell connection after adding the mailbox to the in-place hold

Get-PSSession | Remove-PSSession
