Boeing and Airbus hope to land 5G deployment

Boeing and Airbus have jointly sent a letter to US Transportation Secretary Peter Boutigig asking for a delay in the launch of the C-band 5G by Verizon and AT&T. At the heart of the problem is the fear of interfering with the aircraft altimeter.

In the recent FCC auction, Verizon and AT&T were the biggest bidders for the if C-band spectrum. In fact, under its legal name Celco Partnership, Verizon spent $45454843197, while AT&T spent $2340,6860839 (through FCC).

Together, the two companies spent more than $68 billion on the C-band spectrum, which is considered ideal for 5G in the range of 3.7to 3.98 GHz. Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile provide a superior range for the low-band spectrum of their national 5G networks, but they are not much faster than 4G LTE. The fastest 5G types-6 GHz and higher millimeter waves-provide multi-gigabit performance, but the range and building permeability are very limited.

By contrast, the C-band is right in the middle, providing excellent speed and good range and building penetration.
