The housing company announced that long-awaited HomeKit support is now available for its Iota home safety system. This update adds the ability to manage and view system status through apple Home applications and Siri voice commands on iOS, macOS, Apple Watch, and HomePod devices. The company said it planned to introduce HomeKit support into its first-and second-generation systems in the future, but did not provide a timetable.

As the first self-installed home security system that supports HomeKit, Iota can be deployed or undeployed through home applications. Any motion, door, or window sensor connected to the Iota will appear in the Home application, and you can also watch the real-time video stream of the Iota's built-in camera without leaving the application. Siri can be used to obtain alert status, but it cannot be used to deploy or deactivate the system.

In recent years, self-installed home safety systems have become very popular, with companies such as Ring and SimpliSafe dominating the market. They provide a cheap and easy way to add security systems to your house without requiring professionals to install them and without getting caught up in long-term and expensive service contracts. SimpliSafe announced plans to support HomeKit at some point, but Ring has not yet committed any HomeKit support to its Ring Alarm system.
