Today, Microsoft released Windows 11 build 22581 to Windows Insiders in the Dev and Beta channels. That's right--this is the first Windows 11 version 22H2 to enter Beta, which means there are plenty of new features available to try out.

So far, the Beta channel has been testing the same updates as the Release Preview channel, which are only cumulative updates. But over the past few months, Windows Preview members in the Dev channel have gained access to more and more new features, so all of them are now available in the Beta channel.

New Windows 11 Features in Beta Channels

What does this include? For beginners, tablets have a lot of improvements. There's a new tablet-optimized taskbar that collapses to a smaller size when no keyboard or mouse is connected. This taskbar displays only system information such as battery, Wi-Fi, and sound icons. You can swipe up to show the full taskbar, and in fact, the new swipe gesture is also important in this update. You can now swipe up from the taskbar to open the Start menu and down to close it. You can swipe right from the Start menu to go to the All Apps list or the full recommendations list, etc. Three-finger sideslip toggles between the closest apps, swipes down to minimize all open apps, and there's a new feature that prevents notification panels from opening when full-screen apps are in use.
