Apple will face a class action lawsuit over a malfunctioning MacBook keyboard. Federal judge Edward Davila has abandoned Apple's attempt to sue, accusing the company of not only concealing a loophole in the MacBook butterfly keyboard, but also failing to provide "effective repair" or full compensation to customers who bought and repaired the keyboard. According to the lawsuit, Apple violated consumer protection laws in several states, which could make it difficult for many users who deal with sticky or unresponsive buttons, even if a small amount of debris slips into the keyboard.

The lawsuit covers many Apple laptops with butterfly keyboards, starting with the initial 12-inch MacBook in 2015, including MacBook Pro models made in or after 2016.

We have asked Apple to comment on this. However, it could face an uphill battle in court. Although the company has never said there are inherent flaws in the design of the butterfly keyboard, it has developed fixes for the keyboard and even added it to the program after the latest 13-inch MacBook Pro went on sale. Similarly, in the eyes of many, this is the obvious restoration of the 16-inch MacBook Pro to the scissors switch, which is the default that the early technology is too fragile. So after the butterfly keyboard became a distant memory, Apple probably found itself paying a high price for its design choices.
