Microsoft releases Surface Pro 3
Microsoft unveiled its third-generation Surface device in New York on May 20th.
The device, called the Surface Pro 3, is a 12-inch Intel Core i7 device with a resolution of 2160 X 1440. It has an aspect ratio of 3X2, a thickness of 0.36in and a weight of 800g (without keyboard).
Microsoft advertised Pro 3 as "a tablet that can replace laptops".
Microsoft has vigorously promoted its first two generations of Surface as a consumer and creative device, both as a tablet and as a laptop. In today's statement, the head of the water surface, Panos Panay, clearly conveyed this message.
Pen is also a key element for Microsoft to promote these next-generation devices. There is a button at the end of the pen that the user can press to open OneNote automatically. The new bracket on the device has a new "canvas mode" angle (150 degrees) designed to improve "foldability". Microsoft says the battery life is "up to nine hours".
There will be a docking station and a new type covering surfaces of various colors. Panay says the touchpad on the new keyboard is larger and scrolls better.
There will be three versions of Surface Pro 3: core i3, Core i5 and Core i7. Reservations will be accepted from May 21, starting at $799. Shipment begins on June 20th.
Update: the following is the complete price list of different Surface Pro 3 devices and related peripherals. (thank you @ hoyty) the core version of i3 starts at $799 with 4 GB of memory. The high-end Core i7 with 8gb memory and 512gb storage costs $1949. The keyboard is still 129.99 dollars.
