Google announced on Tuesday that its domain name registration service, Google Domains, is losing its beta tag after it was first launched more than seven years ago. The service is now widely available in 26 countries and the company says it already has "millions of active registrations".

If you register with Google Domains, you can choose from more than 300 different domain suffixes, access "high-performance DNS" (Google means it uses the same infrastructure as you use), "24 / 7 customer support from real people," and more. The company also offers a 20 per cent discount on "any single domain registration or transfer to Google Domains" for new and existing users using the code DOMAINS20.

However, if you register a domain with Google Domains, you still need to actually build a Web site to use it. Not surprisingly, Google recommended its Google site products, but also recommended its "advanced partners", including Wix, Shopify, Squarespace, Weebly and Bluehost.

Google Domains has been developing for a long time-it launched its first invitation-only beta in June 2014 and released it in the United States in January 2015. Even Gmail hasn't been in the testing phase for that long.
