Elden Ring developer FromSoftware has launched a fix (via Polygon) for an error that caused the loss of game save data on PS5. In one tweet, the developers confirmed that they had made "changes to save progress, even if the game didn't stop," on PS5, and released other patches on PC.

Last week, Elden Ring publisher Bandai Namco warned PS5 players that putting the console in hibernation mode or turning it off while the game was running could prevent the game from being saved correctly. Instead, players are instructed to exit from the menu to save the game manually. The new patch should hopefully solve this problem, but until we know that the patch does work, it may be wise to continue to exit the main menu.

At the same time, the PC patch fixes a bug that could cause the game to crash in a battle with the Fire Giant, as well as a considerable problem that prevents the game from identifying the player's graphics card, resulting in poor performance.

Although Elden Ring has received full praise, technical issues remain an issue-- including some that may have been introduced in this patch. As Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier pointed out on Twitter, his game has been crashing repeatedly since the update was installed, although it is not clear which platform he is playing on. Other PC and PS5 players have also reported problems after installing patches, including constant crashes, game freezes, and a sudden inability for PS4 players to play with people on PS5.
