Facebook may be the reason for the collapse of iOS apps like Spotify and Tinder
Today, many popular applications, including Spotify, Tinder, and Pintrest, have crashed on iOS. Early reports suggest that this may be due to a Facebook error.
When we checked before submitting this copy, Pintrest and Spotify crashed on our devices (iPhone 11 and iPhone SE II).
Social media is full of reported apps, crashing on iPad and iPhone all day, and you can see the peak of DownDetector outages. According to reports, these applications can only be started when the device is offline. For things like Spotify, you can listen to music offline, but it doesn't make much sense for other applications. This "solution" makes sense.
Although it has not been determined why this happens, early reports suggest that the problem is caused by Facebook's SDK, which is used by many applications to manage user logins. However, even users who log in to the application without using a Facebook account will be affected by these crashes. In addition, Android users did not complain about any interruptions.
Facebook mentioned on its developer platform this morning that it is aware of the problem and is investigating the increase in errors in iOS SDK, but the problem has not yet been resolved.
This is not the first time Facebook has been involved. A similar problem occurred in May, causing dozens of apps to crash. The problem was solved in one day.
