Huawei Mate40 has an undistorted ultra-wide-angle camera
Huawei just launched its flagship smartphone line earlier today (October 19, 2020). The companion 40 series is about to be released, and a preview of a new promotional video with an undistorted ultra-wide-angle lens has been found in new smartphones.
In the video, the company shares the lines of "appropriate level" and "one line, one lens at a time", hinting at its camera module. The video itself focuses the camera on a plate of food, starting with a close-up and then seamlessly transitioning to wide-angle shooting. The video also highlights the distortion effects that can be observed on most ultra-wide-angle lenses, which the company suggests may not be a problem for the upcoming Mate 40 series.
While many OEMs are looking for better anti-distortion algorithms, Huawei may have found a way to eliminate the problem completely. Although, it is still too early to be sure. Earlier, we reported on a Mate40 Pro that shows the settings of three cameras by rendering leaks. In this leak, the ultra-wide-angle lens was a 20 million-pixel fdeband 1.8-aperture sensor.
