Source code exposure: native Android will usher in "super power-saving" mode

In the future, native Android systems may usher in new ultra-low power consumption modes. XDA developers' Mishaal Rahman Discovery AOSP (source code for Android) shows a promise to add a new "ultra-low power mode" to future versions of Android, and indirect details indicate that it may be added to the upcoming Pixel phone.

This submission has just been submitted to AOSP by Google's system Power engineer, speculating that "ultra-low power" mode may be a feature of Pixel 5. This feature is likely to save more power than the power saving mode first introduced by Android 5.0 Lollipop. Existing modes work by reducing the frequency with which refresh content is applied, disabling voice commands that are always on, disabling background operations, increasing the interval between waking up standby devices, and forcing the use of dark themes.

This new model may impose other restrictions on it, such as which applications can be launched.
