MediaTek KOMPANIO 1200 chip may appear on CHROMEBOOK

Chip maker MediaTek yesterday began a summit of MediaTek executives. During the event, we heard too much about MediaTek's plans, achievements and new products. Some of them have already come out. But some still need to pass a variety of tests before they can enter the market. Today, the company held a brief meeting on the work of its PC and Chromebook. Although the company did not announce any new products at the meeting, it still had some idea of what the company was doing. In this regard, we should pay attention to the MediaTek Kompanio 1200 chipset that will appear on the top Chromebook.

As a reminder, the first MediaTek Kompanio 1200 made its debut a year ago. It comes with the model MT8195. The company then announced that another model, the MT8192 (now known as the Kompanio 820), would be available in the second quarter. The former model is expected to appear on the final product in the future. Many people think it is the end of 2021. But for now, we think it will be postponed to 2022.

Although many users may not be familiar with it, SoC itself is very interesting. The Kompanio 1200 is manufactured by 6nm and has a Cortex-A78 core. Therefore, it targets the high-end Chromebook segment, which we have never seen from ARM vendors before.

So when the company said it was designing the chip for high-end products, it meant the price of the Chromebook was more than $400. In other words, the company will implement the following plan. Kompanio 1200 began to compete with Intel Core i3. But to succeed, it will bring new value propositions that Intel cannot achieve. When it comes to this, we first of all mean longer battery life.

In addition to the widely watched Kompanio 1200 chip, there is a more powerful Kompanio 2000, which competes with Intel i7. But we think this pattern will come later.
