Two senators are seeking antitrust scrutiny of Google's search practices. Google's digital advertising business has been investigated by 50 attorney general over trust issues, while senators Josh Hawley and Richard Blumenthal want to extend it to search. In a letter to Attorney General William Barr, Google said in a letter to Attorney General William Barr that Google dominates advertising because "it has a huge share of the search engine market," Axios reported earlier on Tuesday.

"Google's online advertising activities are inextricably linked to Google's search activities," the letter said. "in more than 90% of the global search market share, the opportunity for anti-competitive behavior is huge."

The letter suggested that Google had acquired the dominance of the search engine "through illegal means" and imposed a fine of $2.7 billion for manipulating search results.
