Apple's new patent: use glass to make MacBook, keyboard can be bent
CTOnews.com8, March 10 (Xinhua)-- the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office today granted Apple a new patent related to a future MacBook or MacBook-like device that uses a glass structure, and the glass in the keyboard area can be deformed to create a better typing experience, Patently Apple reported.
According to the patent, the device is made of glass as a whole, and the glass on the keyboard is a reinforced glass with a thickness of about 40 microns or less. Because of the thinness and flexibility of the glass, when the force of the key is applied to the glass while typing, the glass will deform under this force, while the part of the keyboard without the force will not deform or deform very little.
Compared with thicker or less flexible glass, the local deformation of thin glass can provide a more comfortable typing experience because users can feel depressions similar to traditional keyboards.
CTOnews.com learned that according to the keyboard cross section at the end of the patent map, the glass on the keyboard can produce protuberances, outlines, or other traditional keyboard shapes in order to plan different keys on the keyboard and make it easier for users to get a more familiar keyboard, because each key position of the traditional keyboard is spaced apart, so users can type faster and make fewer errors.
Finally, it is unclear whether this technology will be used as a patent.
